The beauty of glass is matched only by its fragility, making it an especially powerful artistic medium. Thanks to world-renowned glass master Dale Chihuly, Tacoma (Chihuly’s hometown) has grown into a major force in the development of glass art. National and international artists, such as Victoria, B.C.’s Jay Macdonell (whose piece Articulated, is on display at the William Traver Gallery), are drawn to Tacoma’s unique glass culture. Nowhere is this more evident than at the Museum of Glass, where visitors can traverse Chihuly’s Bridge of Glass, watch live glassblowing demonstrations, and view unique works from around the world.
